It was my 17th birthday and this boy who I had a big crush on for the longest time was taking me to watch a movie. We had been talking for the past 6 months. He picked me up and told me he had a surprise for me and that he wanted to tell me later that night. So the movie ended and we drove back to his house. We were sitting in his car and he started to say the following, “there is something that I have wanted to tell you for a long time…..”

I started thinking to myself. Here he goes! He’s going to tell me that he likes me! I will never forget what he said next. “I’m gay”. I was shocked. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I mean we had been talking for 6 months and he had kept this from me the whole time. The worst part was that when we walked into his house his boyfriend was sitting there on the couch. I left immediately. It was an awkward few minutes in my life. I haven’t spoken to him since.
